One Quart Magazine presents the best of June at NYC Looks. Liisa Jokinen gives you a view to the street styles of New York City.
One Quart Magazine publishes selected NYC Looks photos every month.
Clara, 22 “I’m wearing some pieces from Issey Miyake. My style is inspired by my mood and the weather. I live for comfort. I’m usually either in a lot of color or black and earth tones. I’m really into color blocking and classic grunge wear.”
Rikiya, 20 “I’m wearing jackets by Landlord and The World is Your Oyster, a Comme des Garçons shirt, pants by Theory, Dr Martens shoes with Gucci accessories. Everyone who’s in NYC and people around me inspire me. I like 80s or 90s punk fashion and for this summer, I’m interested in Japanese yakuza fashion.”
Stephanie, 40 “I’m wearing a pair of WW2 pants, vintage tops and Doc Martens. My style is inspired by everything that’s from the beginning of the last century in men’s and boys’ fashion; I’m in love with the newspaper boys’ and The little rascals’ attire. I love what Jeanne Moreau wears when she dresses as a man in Jules et Jim. Anything that’s from the past is more worthy to me than contemporary garments. I hate anything mainstream such as H&M, GAP, Zara and the likes.”
Timothy, 64 “I am wearing my own pleated clothing: pants, poncho, hat, and coat. I am inspired by beauty, and textiles, especially indigenous and tribal. I like a rather wide variety of clothing, mostly antique, tribal, and ethnographic. I’m much more interested in individual style than fashion. As Coco Chanel said: Fashion changes, style remains.”
Mary, 23 “Color, shape and texture inspire my style. I like to dress like a walking masterpiece with my hand-painted pieces I do myself. Fashion empowers me, and helps me feel like I can conquer my day. I feel happiest when wearing looks that combine my lust for art and my appreciation for showcasing the female form (aka my cute lil body!)”
