Mattias Björkas: “Here’s a list with songs by the Swedish artist Kjell Höglund. Somebody here in Sweden asked me if there was a Swedish equivalent to Leevi & The Leavings, and Kjell Höglund was the only one I could think of. He’s less popular, and less concerned with popular music than Gösta Sundqvist ever was, but they share similarities: neither of them are musicians in the traditional sense. Both are concerned with the uncleanliness of human life, and both seem to know that almost all tragedies carry a certain comical potential.”

Mattias returns to Finland this weekend with his band Vasas flora och fauna – fresh from releasing their second long player Veneziansk Afton via Sweden’s Startracks label.  Vasas flora och fauna play Korjaamo, Helsinki on Saturday, 11th November.

This show should also be a real boon for fans of Mattias’ other/former (?) band Cats on Fire, as another mainstay of that group, Ville Hopponen, brings his new project Verandan to open the night.
