One Quart Magazine gives you a first Finnish look at Zebra and Snake's Miikka Lommi directed video for brand new track 'In The City'.
It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from Helsinki’s Zebra & Snake. Their debut album Healing Music appeared in 2012, in the intervening time, other projects and working on new material has been the focus. It’s a welcome return for the band then, with new single ‘In The City’ out today.
The band declare that their new material “relies strongly on ruthlessly pulsating analogue synths, frantic and carefree drumming and bouncy basslines.” One Quart can hear added urgency and an overall bigger picture. Think of a dirtier sounding Dare-era Human League aligned with contemporary swagger and you’ll start to get a handle on ‘In The City’s charms.

Bass & synth player Matti says of their new song “’In the City’ is unconditional advice given to a friend of ours who no longer felt well in a rural environment. Adoring the city and its beat really worked. This person moved to the city shortly after the song was written.”
Meanwhile, the Miikka Lommi directed video for ‘In The City’ oozes a certain amount of innocent sleaze. The video captures the farewell house party of said friend, with people looking bored, sad, cooking, eating, dancing, blowing gum and doing “funny stuff”. Matti explains “Basically we invited a bunch of friends in and spent a lovely Sunday somewhat the way we usually spend it.”
‘In The City’ is out now on 100%, look out for a new Zebra and Snake EP later this year.
