Playground Music

Touted as one of Finland’s next major musical exports, 24 year old Olivera says “I don’t know where my songs come from. I just listen to the endless radio show inside my head and record the best parts of it.” Impressively and almost with little fuss, Olivera’s music has reached many millions whilst cementing her reputation in the Nordic pop-sphere. On the day her new EP Life Is a Blooper Reel is released, we are delighted at OQM to feature an Olivera curated playlist – with her own special insights to each selection.

One Quart Magazine Playlist: Olivera

Maggie Rogers – Alaska
There’s a goofy atmosphere in this Maggie Rogers debut single. I think she’s a genius! A very talented musician.

Lady Gaga – Joanne
Before I was born, my dad had a little sister. She died of cancer at the age of 19. When I first heard what Lady Gaga’s song ‘Joanne’ is about, I almost couldn’t believe it. We share the same story, me and Gaga. We have always had our own guardian angel aunt.

Florence + The Machine – Shake It Out
There’s no other song that gives me this much energy!

Laleh – Colors
…except about this one! Hmm, hard to choose.

Snow Patrol – Dark Roman Wine
There’s something magical in the minimalistic arrangement and the way Gary Lightbody sings. I was 17 and there was this boy… he sent me this song one night and I fell in love with it immediately. Our little romance didn’t last long but thanks to him I found this song.

Porter Robinson – Sea Of Voices
5 minutes of pure gold! Just when you think the intensity can’t rise anymore, it does. Until the drop that feels like an orgasm.

Passion Pit – Take a Walk
I usually take a walk when I listen to this.

GRANT – Waterline
Sometimes I fall in love with a song and listen to it too much. Found this beautiful piece from GRANT this spring and still haven’t got fed up with it. What a fighter song, oh yeah!

Sam Smith – HIM
This song has something in common with Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’. Such a breathtaking piece of art. And Sam’s voice. You have to sit down to listen to this song.

Playground Music

Halsey – Ghost
I love Halsey’s debut EP Room 93 from 2014. ‘Ghost’ is it’s first single. I like the rhythm and the lyrics, how they work together.

Ozzy Osbourne – Mama I’m Coming Home
This is such an old song but it’s new for me. In my family we didn’t listen to much music when I was little. I’ve just recently started listening to classics.

ViVii – Siv (You and I)
Some songs just have this weird mystic fairy dust. I don’t know, when I close my eyes and listen to this song I feel like I’m a young dad living in 1980’s Stockholm.

Bon Iver – 715 – CRΣΣKS
When it comes to music, lyrics are maybe the most important thing for me. But with Bon Iver it’s all about the sound world.

Sufjan Stevens – Death with Dignity
I’m one of these people who have been thinking about death ever since I was little. I believe that the key to respecting life is to remember how temporal everything is. This is the opening song of Stevens’ album Carrie & Lowell which was inspired by the death of his mother Carrie. Listening to this always makes me sad which I think is a beautiful feeling.

Christina Aguilera – The Voice Within
Christina Aguilera is basically the reason why I became a singer. She has always been my biggest inspiration. When I was 14, The Voice Within was the one song I listened for hours every night. It’s the lyrics, the story, the voice.
