On the eve of the release of their much anticipated new album Sad Bangers, Emma and Mia Kemppainen from LCMDF describe their playlist for OQM as “…a list of our favourite Sad Bangers”
Uffie – drugs
Emma: Uffie is back! Been loving Uffie since she first poppe’d the glock in 2009. Her self-released solo material sounds amazing, and especially the first single ‘Drugs’, that for sure is a Sad Banger 😉
GIRLI – Hot Mess
Emma: I recommend listening to this song together with the fabulous music video. It has all the great elements of what Le Tigre once got famous for, but combining that with a UK vibe, like The Streets and Blur.
Yaeji – Raingurl
Emma: I don’t think you can be much cooler than Yaeji? Can you?
Onni boi – AlrightNo
Emma: If you haven’t heard Onni boi yet you’ve been missing out on the coolest new Finnish artist. Just listen to this choir sample… it’s one for the dark afterhours for sure.
Robyn – Don’t fucking tell me what to do
Emma: This song could be from my diary. Extremely relatable.

St Vincent – New York
Mia: Swearing in a beautiful song always works.
Death Team – Gold
Emma: Death Team for sure was the #1 band to inspire our new album. We can’t get enough of their very personal production touch, bloghaus riffs and outrageous vocal-lines.
Britney Spears – Piece of me
Emma: Written by and featuring the backing vocals of Robyn this song was marking Britney’s comeback after her breakdown in 2007. It definitely hit the feels of teenage me, and remains one of the best Britney songs to this date.
Sigrid -Plot Twist
Emma: One of the most talented new pop acts, Sigrid, seems to find a way to combine a really Spotify-friendly modern pop touch to shouty hooks and interesting production choices.
El Perro Del Mar – Party
Mia: This was a soundtrack for both of us when we were teens. It has this twisted contradiction, she sings “Come on over baby, there’s a party going on”, but with the saddest voice I’ve ever heard. Teen us could definitely relate.

Joji – Yeah right
Mia: This is the best song of Joji. He turned his career from a comedian youtube-star to a credible and successful artist career, that’s a great accomplishment.
Christine and the Queens – iT
Mia: This is a song that has made me cry on a couple of occasions. It feels like an introspection that blends the barriers of gender identity, like a claim to freedom.
Katy Perry – This is how we do
Mia: A pop song that many have forgotten, but that still hits me. Have no idea what it’s about, this beat is as infectious as hell.
Micachu and the shapes – Golden Phone
Mia: We toured Europe with Micachu and her band a couple of years ago, they were absolutely amazing live. When I listen to this song now, I recognize that this has inspired my own production style greatly!
Metronomy – End of you too
Mia: Emma played me the album Nights Out when it came out, I feel this is a record that has helped us form our taste in melodies and distorted bass lines.
The Black Madonna – A Jealous Heart Never Rests
Emma: The Black Madonna is one of the most inspirational figures in modern dance music. I kinda wanna be her actually.
The new album from LCMDF, Sad Bangers is out on the 21st September.
LCMDF play their album release show at Helsinki’s Tavastia on the 29th Sept.
