What impresses so much about Jussi Jaakonaho‘s journey in music thus far has been the sheer breadth and quality. Jaakonaho has that rare talent of choosing his projects with an astute awareness that suits his own convictions, weather as a guitarist or as a producer. His distinctive guitar work has graced records by the likes of Ismo Alanko, Jonna Tervomaa, The Latebirds, Katri Helena and many others. His studio exploits includes work with the likes of Chisu, Alanko, Tervomaa, Lemonator, Tiisu, Tuomari Nurmio, 22-Pistepirkko, Egotrippi and J Karjalainen.

In this respect, Jaakonaho is something of a musical renaissance person. In early September, Jaakonaho steps into the spotlight with the release of his debut solo album, the cinematic soundscapes of Ghost Riot.

Jussi explains the idea behind his playlist “I tried to come up with tracks that most probably inspired me while writing & making my album. What’s common with the tracks on this playlist is that they all are really atmospheric. Some of these tracks are instrumental music but only some – naturally you don’t have to listen just to instrumental music to make it. For me music with a strong mood seems to last… I’ve been listening to some of these tracks for 30 years. These tracks represent some corners of my musical world.”

Jussi has two upcoming shows; his debut-live solo performance at Hämeenlinna’s Suisto this Wednesday, 23rd August and the official album release show at Helsinki’s G Livelab on the 30th August.  Jussi will be joined on stage for this shows by Juho Vehmanen on bass & samples and Niko Votkin on drums.

Jussi Jaakonaho’s debut album Ghost Riot is released on the 1st September via Grandpop Records.
