There is something magical about being a duo. In the past years the conversation between Cats of Transnistria members Henna Emilia Hietamäki and Tuomas Alatalo has evolved into a discussion without words. But it’s not just any discussion, it’s laden with unuttered emotion, like this new song. I have a romantic relationship to the idea of being in a duo – this view bleeds into my perception of the band.
But you know what? On this new song, Sanna Komi has become a permanent member of Cats of Transnistria. Maybe that’s why the song reaches religious heights in the end; the violin of Komi adds large spaces around the conversational intimacy of Henna’s voice and Tuomas’ guitars.
Love is a mystery and a superpower still somehow unused and forgotten among us humans. This song is one of those reminders we need. A celestial indie treasure from 2017.
