Pinja Niemi and Joonatan Kotila visit Stockholm's Södermalm district to discover some of the best Vintage Guitar stores in Europe.
If you’re looking for a great deal on a vintage guitar we recommend you travel to Stockholm, Sweden. From Finland it’s very easy to take the overnight ferry and visit the best shops in Stockholm by foot. Guitar selection in these shops is broader compared to Helsinki and many other European cities, especially Swedish brands like Hagström and Levin are easy to find and sometimes even at a decent price. Most of the shops mentioned here are located in Södermalm and are within walking distance from each other. Jam Guitar shop is located in the center of the city but it is also easy to reach by subway. All the shops have repair departments as well, so all sold guitars are maintained and playable.
1. TWANG GITARRER OCH KAFFE, Katarina Bangata 25
On the street level there is a café with a nice terrace. They also serve lunch during the weekdays. The guitar shop is located in the basement. Selection features acoustic and electric guitars and a few amps. Instruments for sale are listed here, more info www.twang.se Open: Tuesday-Friday 12am-16pm, Saturday 12am-3pm.
2. HALKAN’S ROCKHOUSE, Noe Arksgranden 2

3. HELLSTONE MUSIC, Götgatan 24
Hellstone Music’s entrance is every vintage instrument collector’s dream. On display are old RCA ribbon mics, a Hofner violin bass, Beatles memorabilia and a Trixon drum set. The ceiling and walls are decorated with Hagström’s and Eko’s glitter-guitars. Items on display probably are not for sale (or at least not very cheap), but the selection in the store is quite comprehensive also featuring drum sets and keyboards. They also have very good customer service. We once asked for an original spare part for a 1960’s Hagström bass and the shopkeeper called Mr.Hagström to ask if they still have those available. Hellstone doesn’t list its selections on their website, so you need to go there yourself and see what they sell at the moment. www.hellstonemusic.se Open: Monday-Friday 11am-6pm, Saturday 11am-3pm.
