The Nyt Riittää!-zine (Enough is Enough!) was initiated in disgust over Finnish parliamentary member Olli Immonen’s neo-fascist outbursts on Facebook. We wanted to show that Finnish comics circles are in direct opposition to such sentiments. Nyt Riittää! was created at the Helsinki Book Fair in collaboration with Sarjakuvakeskus.

We were overjoyed that the cream of Finnish comic artists of today took time off their packed schedules. They produced fantastic material for the zine to loudly and clearly denounce fascism in any form.

The editorial team consisted of Tuomas Tiainen, Heikki Rönkkö and myself. Logistics, contacts and a lot of practical help came from Kalle Hakkola, Aino Sutinen and everyone else at Sarjakuvakeskus.

A half year later a young man has been murdered on the streets of Helsinki for voicing his opposition to openly fascist groups. We thought this wave of anti-human sentiment had peaked where members of parliament openly congregated with white supremacists. We were so wrong.

Our sentiments still stand and are best voiced through Martin Luther King’s words:

“In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

History has shown where this path can take us. We have the power through our words and our hearts to stop that from happening.
